Greetings good sir or madam. My name's Jer & welcome to my lj. This jounal is primarily for my reference, but of course anyone is welcome to read its contents. Its main intent is to record my progress in becoming more fit. I've got a pretty fun daily routine worked out & I want to keep logs for inspiration, motivation, and as a way to look back on my progress over the years.
I've never been in particularly great shape. I seem to go in spurts - one summer I'll bike 20 miles a day and get in shape, then take 2 years off & get flabby. Then I'll run 3 miles a day for a summer, then take a year off & get flabby again. Why is this? I consider myself a very driven and passionate person; one who does not quit when my mind is set on achiving a goal. But why can't I stay fit for life?
In parallel, I am a decent piano player who suffers from the same hinderances with respect to practicing. Again, why can't I stay on top of it forever?
I believe I have the answer. All my life, I have attempted to serve others first, self last. This has worked well over the years for things like my careers (I have 2), but I believe it's what has kept me from progressing with my fitness and musical goals.
I am going to take control of my life & put what I believe to be the most important things first, always. This means setting some strict priorities for myself, following through with my routines daily, and mainting this blog to be sure I constantly shift my focus from down-in-the-mud details to high-point-of-view planning and review.
